We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:
Case Management/Home Assessment- Trained volunteers assist the Sight for Senior program and other staff with home visits. During the visit the volunteers will assess the client’s needs, make suggestions on modifying the client’s home, educate clients on the use of adaptive aids and provide referrals to other community programs, as well as provide follow-up services and maintain client files. Volunteers are required to participate in 5 home assessments prior to working with clients on their own, taking the lead on the last two. Our services help clients maintain, or regain, their independence, and stay connected to the community. Visits are scheduled according to the volunteer’s geographic limitations and desire for providing assessments each month.
Reader- Volunteers are needed 2-4 times a month to assist visually impaired or blind clients with reading & sorting mail( including bills), writing checks and reconciling their checkbook register, shredding files and mail, and organizing personal business papers. Some clients may want the volunteer to read a book or professional journal. Visiting with the client and maintaining accurate records is a key role in this position. Volunteers must be willing to read every word of a document or be able to accurately summarize the information, according to client need. Volunteer and client determine together the schedule of the volunteer’s visits.
Office Assistance- we have mass mailings several times a year and need assistance with making copies, stuffing envelopes and preparing documents for mailing. The hours are flexible.
